Published 20 December 2025Β·Updated 20 January 2026Β·5 min read
Exam-day panic is the biggest hidden cost of preparation. This checklist eliminates it.
Night before
Physical
- β Admit card printed (2 copies) + ID card ready in one clear folder.
- β Blue/black pens (3), pencil, eraser, sharpener, ruler in transparent pouch.
- β Water bottle labelled with name (some centres allow).
- β Alarm set for 6 AM. Backup alarm on phone.
- β Uniform / permitted clothing laid out.
- β Bag packed by 9 PM.
Mental
- β NO NEW TOPIC. Only revise formula sheets from Board Formulas.
- β Read common mistakes sections β they matter most.
- β NO comparing prep with friends after 8 PM.
- β Light dinner. No experimental food.
- β In bed by 10 PM. 8 hours sleep target.
Tactical
- β Route to centre confirmed. If bus, backup transport ready.
- β Leave 30 min earlier than "needed" β traffic, tyre puncture, missing key.
- β Charge phone but plan to hand it in at centre gate.
Morning of
Body
- β Wake by 6 AM. 10-minute stretch or walk.
- β Full breakfast β protein + carbs (eggs + toast, poha + curd, upma). No new food.
- β Water: 500 ml. Bathroom before leaving.
- β No coffee if you don't drink it daily β heart-rate spike causes anxiety.
Mind

- β Do NOT read a chapter you struggled with β creates panic.
Bag re-check (2 minutes)
- Admit card β
- ID β
- Pens x3 β
- Pencil, eraser, ruler β
- Water β
- Wristwatch (not smartwatch β often not permitted) β
In the exam hall
First 5 minutes
- Take deep breaths. 4 seconds in, 6 seconds out. Three times.
- Write name, roll number on answer sheet FIRST. Double-check.
- Read the paper cover to cover. Circle question numbers you know cold.
- Plan time: 3 hours = 180 min. If paper is 70 marks, aim for ~2.5 min/mark = 175 min work + 5 min buffer.
Order of solving
- Easy first β 5-mark direct-formula questions you know cold. Bank confidence + marks.
- Medium next β 3-mark numericals.
- Hardest last β HOTS, derivations, long-answer.
Never start with the toughest question. Momentum matters.
Per question
- Read the question twice.
- Underline "given" and "find".
- Write units and formula BEFORE substituting.
- Show one line per step. Steps earn marks even if final answer is wrong.
- Circle/box your final answer with units.
Common last-minute mistakes to prevent
- Answering wrong question number (misread numbering).
- Forgetting units in final answer.
- Not turning the answer sheet over β missing 20 marks on the back.
- Rushing signature/roll on cover page.
- Bringing calculator when not allowed (or vice versa).
Between exams (if two-day gap)
- Sleep in on rest morning if possible.
- Revise 4 hours max β formula sheet + common mistakes for tomorrow's subject.
- Talk to family, not classmates. Comparing hurts.
- One walk outside for 20 minutes. Sunlight resets sleep rhythm.
The mantra
You have studied. You have solved PYQs. You have used Board Formulas. The paper is another Wednesday. Nothing more.
Now, go get your marks.
