Maharashtra Board vs CBSE β Formula Coverage Compared
Parents and students often ask us which board is "harder". The honest answer is: neither. They test different strengths. Here is the actual difference in formula coverage.
Class 10 Physics
| Topic | CBSE | Maharashtra | |-------|------|-------------| | Motion (Newton's laws) | Class 9 | Class 10 (Gravitation ch) | | Light β Reflection/Refraction | β | β (Refraction, Lenses split into 2 chapters) | | Electricity | β | β (Effects of Electric Current β combined) | | Magnetic effects | β | β | | Sources of energy | β (dropped in some editions) | β | | Human eye | β | β |
Verdict: CBSE 10 Physics focuses on Light + Electricity + Magnetism. Maharashtra 10 covers Gravitation additionally.
Class 12 Physics
| Topic | CBSE | Maharashtra | |-------|------|-------------| | Electrostatics | 2 chapters | 2 chapters | | Current electricity | β | β (heavier on Kirchhoff derivation) | | Magnetic effects | β | β (more on gyromagnetic ratio) | | EMI + AC | 2 chapters | 2 chapters | | Wave optics | β | β | | Modern physics | β | β | | Semiconductors | β | β | | Communication | Removed 2020 | Removed 2020 |
Verdict: Coverage is 90%+ overlapping. Difference is in emphasis: Maharashtra HSC gives more marks to derivations, CBSE gives more to numerical.
Class 12 Maths
| Topic | CBSE | Maharashtra | |-------|------|-------------| | Matrices, Determinants | β | β | | Differentiation | β | β (more identities) | | Applications of derivatives | β | β | | Integration | β (Riemann sum optional) | β (Riemann sum core) | | Vectors | β | β (line of intersection in-depth) | | 3D geometry | β | β (skew lines detailed) | | Probability | β (Bayes) | β (Bayes + Binomial in depth) | | Linear programming | β | β |
Verdict: Maharashtra 12 Maths goes slightly deeper on 3D geometry and binomial probability. CBSE 12 has more calculus applications.
Class 12 Chemistry
Both boards cover the same 10 chapters (Solutions, Electrochemistry, Kinetics, d-block, Coordination, Haloalkanes, Alcohols/Phenols/Ethers, Aldehydes/Ketones/Carboxylic, Amines, Biomolecules).
Difference:
- CBSE gives more weight to reaction mechanisms.
- Maharashtra emphasises named reactions and their conditions.
Class 12 Biology
Both boards follow the NCERT structure (Reproduction, Genetics, Evolution, Biology and Human Welfare, Biotechnology, Ecology).
Maharashtra Biology includes some additional Marathi-medium terminology preservation, but content is 95% overlapping.
Which board is "easier"?
Neither. Different strengths:
- CBSE: favours students who like numerical problems and structured MCQ-style thinking.
- Maharashtra: favours students who write clean derivations and remember named reactions.
Your effort matters more than your board.
